Anna Shindle

April 25, 1940 — August 9, 2020

Ms. Anna “Jeane” Shindle, 80, of Williamsport, fondly know as “Nan” by some, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born April 25, 1940, in Williamsport, the youngest of eight, she was a daughter of the late Roy McKinley and Charlotte Mae Clark Robinson.  She graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1958.

Jeane began her career as a switchboard operator at Sears Roebuck and retired as an auto-center supervisor. She also worked at Middlekauff Motors and retired at the age of 71 for First Data, all of Hagerstown.

Currently Ms. Shindle attended Ebenezer United Brethern Church, Greencastle.  Formerly, she attended St. Paul’s Church, Clear Spring, where she taught Sunday School during her childrens’ early years.

Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and creating crafts for friends and family.  She most enjoyed her time being an active grandmother which gave her the most joy.  Additionally, she loved listening to Elvis’s gospel music and Kenny Rogers music and attending concerts.

Nan, in retirement, could not sit idle. Besides dedicating her time to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was an independent woman that enjoyed taking care of her lawn, flowers, wildlife and a tidy home.

Jeane is survived by her children, Robin D. Awon and husband Gilbert of Hagerstown, Daniel R.Shindle and wife Sheila Shindle of the Philippines, and David A. Shindle of Norfolk, Virginia; six grandchildren Renee N. Thompson, Rachel M. Crowell and husband Clint, Rohn M. Strubel and wife Rachel, and Carrie L., Christopher T. and Michaela R. Shindle; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as her brother Ned D. Robingson and wife Connie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeane was preceded in death by her siblings Vera V. Marker, Leroy M. and Victor C. Robinson, Charlotte B. Hamby, Guy F. Robinson, who lost his life in the battle of Iwo Jima, and Grace E. Linebaugh.

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements.  The funeral home will be open for friends to call  on Wednesday, August 12 from 2:00 to to 7:00 PM.  Family and friends will gather for a graveside service at St. Paul’s Cemetery, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring, Thursday, August 13, at 11:00 AM,  with Rev. M. David Grove, pastor of Ebenezer United Brethern Church, Greencastle, officiating.
