Mrs. Dixie Jean Hockenberry Lushbaugh, 83, of Hagerstown, fondly known by many as " Miss Dixie," died early Wednesday afternoon, November 29, 2023, at her residence.  She was the wife of Mr. Charles Ronald “Ronnie” Lushbaugh, her husband of 62 years,

 

Born May 16, 1940, on Hospital Hill, Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Raphael Benedict and Regina Elizabeth Rupp Hockenberry.  She was a 1958 graduate of Quincy (PA) High School.

 

Mrs. Lushbaugh was baptized into the Catholic faith at and life-long member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown.

 

She served as Banquet Manager for 48 years with Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42, of Hagerstown.

 

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her children Ronald Allen Lushbaugh of Lakeland, Florida, Roxanne Lushbaugh Cobb and husband John of Osh Kosh, Wisconsin, Raphael Lynn Lushbaugh and wife Melissa of Vero Beach, Florida, and Reginald Eugene Lushbaugh and wife Lori of Hagerstown; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Shirley Whittington of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and Sonja Stine of Zullinger, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces nephews.

 

The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Tuesday, December 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, December 6, at 10:00 AM, at her church, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown.  The Rev James E. Borick will celebrate the mass.  Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Gardens, Hagerstown, with the Rev. George A. Limmer offering prayers.

 

The omission of flowers is requested.  Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Lushbaugh’s name to her church, St Mary’s Roman Church, 224 West Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland  21740.
