Emma Sprankle

Mrs. Emma Virginia Shilling Sprankle, 79, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at her residence.  She was the wife of the late Harry Gordon Sprankle, her husband of 49 years who preceded her in death on April 28, 2014.

Born February 19, 1935, in Hagerstown, she a daughter of the late Maynard Leon and Orpha Louise Bowman Shilling.

Mrs. Sprankle had previously been employed with Hotel Alexander and Brethren Mutual Insurance Company.  Most recently, she worked with Chick-Fil-A.

She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

Surviving is her son, Robert L. Summers, Sr., and wife Charmain; grandchildren, Tessa M. Moats and husband Allen, Bethann V. Moyer and husband Richard; Robert L. Summers, Jr., and wife Kim, and Michael G. Summers and wife Ashley; five great granddaughters and seven great grandsons; and a close niece Chrissy Tracey and husband Elwood, and other nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded by siblings, Ethel F. Otzelberger, Janice L. Monninger, Isabell A. Shilling, Betty J. Eaton, Merle L. Shilling, Joseph E. Shilling, and Robert A. Shilling, Sr.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 19, at 1:00 PM, at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Lowans officiating.  Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doeys House in care of Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland  21742.
