Gary Swartz

December 22, 1942 — January 14, 2016

Mr. Gary Edgar Swartz, 73, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 12, 2016, at NMS Health Care of Hagerstown, after a long battle with Muscular Dystrophy. He entered Heaven's gates where his Saviour was waiting. He was the husband of Linda Sue Swartz, his wife of 50 years.

Born December 22, 1942, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Clarence Edgar Swartz and the late Rita May Foltz Swartz Poole, and William Robert Poole of Hagerstown. Gary attended Hagerstown High School; and was a United States Army Veteran.

Gary retired in 1998 from Pangborn Corporation.

His religious affiliation was with the Church of God. He also pastored with Prison Ministry.

Gary was Past President of United Auto Workers, Local 842; and member of the Disability Advisory Commission of Washington County.

Surviving besides his wife, are his children, Cassandra Jo Donahue and husband Donald of Mercersburg, and Cory May Swartz of Hagerstown; by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and siblings, Penny May Nigh and husband Robert, Larry Eugene Swartz and Clarence Elton “Buddy” Swartz and wife Jo Ellen, all of Hagerstown; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family wished to offer special thanks to the Nurses and Staff of NMS Health Care, especially to Terry Twigg.

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements. There will not be visiting at the funeral home. A service will be held at a later date.
