March 5, 1950 — July 8, 2018

Scott Michael Bressler passed away on Sunday July 8, 2018 at the age of 68.

He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 5, 1950 to Barbara and the late George Bressler. Scott grew up in Miami, Florida and attended North Miami Beach High School, followed by the University of Miami.

In 1967 as a freshman, Scott volunteered to work on the university’s school newspaper “The Hurricane” as a staff reporter.  He was assigned to his favorite section covering sports.  Over the next 3 years he would work his way up through the ranks as Sports Editor, Associate Editor and finally he was elected to the position of Editor in Chief. The year he was editor “The Hurricane” was awarded the prestigious “Best College Newspaper in The Country” by the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation.  His colleagues remember Scott as a hard-working, dedicated journalist who was always available to give advice and support to the men and women working on the newspaper.  He graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in Business Administration.

Scott worked as a CPA, associate professor of accounting, and spent time abroad working for USAID providing international financial training. Scott is survived by his daughters Hana Bressler and Stacy Bressler-Maginnis, his son-in-law Michael Maginnis, his sister and brother-in-law Ellen and Larry Levine, his mother Barbara Bressler, and his grandchildren Elora and Gabriel Maginnis.
