Obituary

Mr. Milton Rosenthal, 98, of Hagerstown, and a formerly a resident of New York and Florida, died Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Somerford House and Place, Hagerstown.  He was the husband of the late Mrs. Blanche Moskowitz Rosenthal, who died June 24, 1998.

Born May 8, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the youngest of three sons of the late Issac and Rose Cohen Rosenthal.     The family moved to Lindenhurst, Long Island, during the Depression.  Milton graduated from Lindenhurst High School.

At 20 years of age, Milton enlisted in the US Navy for the duration of US involvement in World War II, from 1942-1945.  He flew in a Lockheed Ventura aircraft that escorted cargo ships from the southern states to the Panama Canal.  His aircraft was responsible for sighting German U-boats off the coast. He was stationed in Key West and Havana. 

After the war Milton and his brothers owned and operated a carpet store.  Milton met his wife, Blanche Moskoqitz, in 1948 in New York City; and married her in May, 1949.  They built their home in Lindenhurst where they raised their children, Sandra, William and Laurence

In 1983, they retired to Delray Beach, Florida, where they spent many happy days . In 2016, Milton moved to Maryland where he lived at Somerford House and Place.

Milton and his wife were active in their synagogue: The Lindenhurst Hebrew Congregation.  Additionally, he was a member of the Feustel-Kurdt Post 1120 American Legion, Lindenhurst.

Surviving are his children, Sandra Rosenthal Gagliardi of Hagerstown, and Laurence Rosenthal and wife Lynn of Oceanside, New York; his grandchildren, Matthew Gagliardi of Crofton,  Jason Gagliardi and wife Amanda of Falling Waters, West Virginia, and Erica and Mark Rosenthal, both of West Simsbury, Connecticut; and great grandchildren Hannah, Jackson, Logan; his daughter-in-law, Ruby Rosenthal of West Simsbury; and by nieces and nephews including Renee and Harriet Rosenthal, Nedda Schoenfeld, and Doctors Philip and Robert Rosenthal. 

Besides his wife and parents, Milton was preceded in death by his son William Rosenthal and brothers David and Jack Rosenthal, and sisters-in-laws Edith and Helen Rosenthal

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown is assisting the family with the arrangements.  There will not be visiting at the funeral home.  A private service will be held graveside at Mount Ararat Cemetery, Lindenhurst, New York
